As a bulk-absorptive colored glass, BG39 offers thickness-dependent tunability in both spectral slope and blocking depth. Significance in imaging applications: Silicon-based image sensors typically exhibit sensitivity up to approximately 1100 nm. Without proper filtering, unregulated NIR radiation can penetrate into the RGB channels, leading to color distortion. BG39 mitigates this issue by suppressing NIR transmission relative to the visible spectrum. It is commonly used in conjunction with UV/IR-cut filters when precise spectral confinement within the 400–700 nm range is required.
